An Application-Transparent, Platform-Independent Approach to Rollback-Recovery for Mobile Agent Systems

چکیده
This paper proposes a new approach to rollback-recovery for mobile-agent systems, and describes its implementation in the MESSENGERS mobile agents system. The used checkpointing method allows to implement space and time efficient, user-transparent rollback-recovery in heterogeneous distributed environments. Together with an efficient non-blocking system snapshot algorithm this checkpointing method is an attractive choice for implementing a rollback-recovery mechanism in the mobile agent system, because it exploits features specific to mobile agent systems during the recovery. This paper also presents an optimization technique, called concurrent checkpointing, that increases the effectiveness of the proposed rollback-recovery mechanism.

Cooperative Control of Mobile Robots in Creating a Runway Platform for Quadrotor Landing
Multi-agent systems are systems in which several agents accomplish a mission in a cooperative manner. In this paper, a novel idea for the construction of a movable runway platform based on multi-agent systems is presented. It is assumed that an aerial agent (quadrotor) decides to make an emergency landing due to reasons such as a decrease in energy level or technical failure, while there is no ...
متن کاملCheckpointing and Rollback of Wide-area Distributed Applications using Mobile Agents
We consider the problem of designing rollback error recovery algorithms for dynamic, wide area distributed systems like the Internet. The characteristics and the scale of such a system complicate the design and performance of the algorithms. Traditional message passing based algorithms incur large overhead, in both the network traffic and message passing delay, in such a wide-area environment. ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Recent Checkpointing Techniques for Mobile Computing Systems
Recovery from transient failures is one of the prime issues in the context of distributed systems. These systems demand to have transparent yet efficient techniques to achieve the same. Checkpoint is defined as a designated place in a program where normal processing of a system is interrupted to preserve the status information. Checkpointing is a process of saving status information. Mobile com...
متن کاملSystem Mechanisms for Partial Rollback of Mobile Agent Execution
Mobile agent technology has been proposed for various fault-sensitive application areas, including electronic commerce, systems management and active messaging. Recently proposed protocols providing the exactly-once execution of mobile agents allow the usage of mobile agents in these application areas. Based on these protocols, a mechanism for the application-initiated partial rollback of the a...
متن کاملCheckpointing and Recovery Algorithms Using Mobile Agents on a Hamiltonian Topology
Traditional message passing based checkpointing and rollback recovery algorithms perform well for closely coupled systems. In wide area distributed systems these algorithms may incur large overhead due to message passing delay and network traffic. So to design checkpointing and rollback recovery algorithms for wide area distributed systems, mobile agents are introduced. Network topology is assu...
